Halloween?

Question

This will be my son's first Halloween, he's going to be almost nine months at the time. Do you think it's ridiculous of me to dress him in a costume and maybe trick or treat at the neighbor's houses we know--just for fun? My husband does--I was just wondering if it's just me or if first holidays are really that important?

Definetly get a costume and take some pictures! I wouldn't spend a lot though, as they will only tolerate it for about 20 minutes. Then again, my daughter had three costumes last year!

Trick or treating can wait until he's old enough to walk and eat the treats that he gets. Nothing bugs me more than little ones, under two, that go trick or treating and you know darn good and well that whatever you hand out is for the freeloading parents. Ugh!

There is definitely nothing wrong with dressing up your nine month old son for Halloween. I think that is adorable. I've always loved Halloween. I dressed up and went trick or treating until I was 18 years old. First holidays can be important. It will be good for memories so make sure to take pictures. There are many child Halloween costumes like pumpkins, bumble bees, etc. that stores will sell. It's a great idea. Have fun!

It is not only a social experience for your son, but he'll never have a first Halloween again. If your husband thinks it's funny, then I would suggest that both of you go... and Trick or Treat for UNICEF.

Surely some group in your area is sponsoring a TRICK or TREAT for UNICEF drive, where people dole out quarters instead of candy. What a great way to introduce your child to what's really important and get your husband involved with you in a great cause. UNICEF is a fabulous organization and needs your support. Most UNICEF treaters also have a small gathering afterward with Apple Cider, donuts, etc. You still enjoy the season and you make some new friends.

Unless you are great friends with your neighbors.. I vote no.. At that age, I did put my son in a costume... but only to my parents house to take pictures with his cousins... It would be pointless to take a baby trick-or-treating... Some of the other first holidays are important.. but Halloween is a joke.. Where I live a lot of the kids are way to grown to be out trick-or-treating.. and walk around with no costumes.. just collecting candy in grocery bags.. it's not what it use to be..

it isn't ridiculous, i did it with both of my kids (11 months with first born, 10 months second born). i think it is important cause your child may ask you when they are older why you didn't dress them up. you don't have to go trick-or-treating but it will be fun. even though he can't talk yet it will give the neighbors a chance to see him all dressed up in a costume. just make sure to take pics for the album and have fun.

Your son won't remember exactly, but he'll pick up on your excitement and you'll all have a good time, probably even your hubby.

How can anyone resist an infant dressed up like a vegetable?!

ALSO: I never thought for a second that you would actually give candy to the baby. Most of these people must not have children. LOL! Yes, dress him up & visit your neighbors and/or friends, they'll love seeing him (and you)!

Ridiculous unless he has older brothers or sisters that will be going trick-or-treating as well and you have to go out anyway.

A good compromise would be, both of you dress up in a costume and answer the doors to trick-or-treaters. He won't eat candy, but he can still be dressed up.

Halloween is NOT a holiday, what are we celebrating.. ghosts & goblins?? It's fun to dress up, but I won't recommend trick-treat for a 9 month old. It may be too scary for the little one if a roaring monster answers the door.

Dress him up, take him to the mall or somewhere calmer, but plenty to see.

The holiday is NOT "important", not like the big ones, but it is FUN! Sure, dress him up, use him to get candy, take pictures, have a blast! At his age it will be more fun if you team up wtih a friend who has a similar age child and go around together with your strollers. Also you'll feel less silly :)

I took my son when he was 10 months old, he had just learned to walk 2 weeks before Halloween. We only went to a few home, he loved it! and could say "trick treat"

You could check the malls in your area too and see if they have something special for the kids
